"Optimization of Business Processes Using Lean Technology" is a further professional development course developed in 2022 by Ksenia V. Belysh, PhD in Economics, especially for MGIMO students as part of the "Russian Schools Abroad", Strategic Project №2, within the frameworks of the "Priority 2030" State Program.

This educational programme aims to develop a certain way of thinking, which considers any activity in terms of value for the learner and reduction of all kinds of losses. The introduction to the LEAN philosophy (lean manufacturing) is carried out in the course through the study of a set of methods and tools that allow mastering the critical skills and competencies necessary for future international relations specialists and managers of any business sphere. The main of them are the following: to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of professional activity, production processes, business processes, management and innovation processes, customer satisfaction, as well as to respond quickly and flexibly to changes in the external environment. The programme is designed to facilitate the career development of MGIMO graduates in the 5.38.04.02 "Management" area of training.

The training was carried out in a mixed format fr om October 1 to November 30, 2022 on the e-learning platform. Most of the time, the programme participants mastered the learning material - video lessons, presentations, practical tasks, etc - by themselves. Once a week, online lessons were conducted with the course author. During these sessions Ksenia answered students' questions on the studied material, provided feedback on homework assignments, and analyzed examples of tasks from the certification tests.

A total of 207 students registered for the course. 152 of them fully completed the programme (including 10 MGIMO undergraduate students, 120 MGIMO college students and 22 MGIMO graduates, including master degree students, MGIMO graduates and postgraduates, MGIMO instructors and department heads).

At the end of the course, participants with completed higher education received a professional development certificate. Undergraduate students received a certificate of programme completion, which can be exchanged for a professional development certificate (upon presentation of an undergraduate diploma).

Participants praised the course content and organization of the education process.

"An excellent course! I liked everything about it very much. This is a good example of how online courses should be done! I can highlight most of all the structure and thoughtfulness of the course. It's very well done that you read first and then in the video lesson you perceive the same thing by ear. It's easier to learn and memorise in this way. Ksenia, the presenter, is very professional! The video lessons are very cool and of high quality. It is obvious that a lot of time and effort has been put in. Tests after several lessons also contribute to the work with materials and assimilation, and practical exercises at the beginning and end allow you to apply it in practice and for yourself. The platform is user-friendly, everything is simple, clear and works. The material is succinct and without the fluff. I'm very glad I took this course, made an outline for myself. I'm sure I will use it in the future! Thanks!”

Alexander Avdeev,
MA student

"I liked the work of the platform very much, it was very convenient to use the course. I liked that the lectures were short and concise, and that there were notes. It's a very interesting course and a good presentation of the material. The tasks were of the optimum complexity, and it was a pleasure to do them. And I liked the fact that there was a strict final deadline which made it possible to finish the course in time. And I also liked that the course lasted for one month only (limited time) and that it also motivated me to complete it in time.”

Irina Ermakova,
bachelor

"I was very impressed by the richness of the course material and at the same time the lightness of its presentation. The course is very well designed, wh ere you can choose: to watch the video first and then read the long-readings, or vice versa. I like the fact that the material is actually explained twice - this allows you to focus on the details the second time and notice the points you missed when reading/viewing. The video covers the topics in more detail, which also helps you to absorb the material. I would like to make special mention of the lecturer, who managed to explain the essence of the topics clearly without using redundant scientific terms.”

Maria Chizhova,
MA student

"I liked the structured and systematic nature of the course, clarity and simplicity of the presentation".
